About BMH Addiction Treatment
Our Story
BMH Addiction Treatment was founded in 2004 by Dr. Richard Calloway, a board-certified addiction psychiatrist who recognized that the South Bay LA region lacked a dedicated, clinically rigorous treatment facility. He secured a cliff-top property along Palos Verdes Drive West and transformed it into a 45-bed campus where patients could heal in an environment defined by clinical precision and coastal tranquility.
Over 22 years, our facility has grown from a small residential program into a comprehensive addiction treatment center with medical detox, residential rehabilitation, intensive outpatient, and dual diagnosis services. Today, a team of 93 professionals carries forward Dr. Calloway's founding vision: that evidence-based medicine, delivered with compassion, produces lasting recovery. More than 13,900 patients have walked through our doors and emerged with the tools to rebuild their lives.
Our Mission & Philosophy
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide the highest standard of addiction treatment through evidence-based clinical protocols, individualized care planning, and unwavering respect for every patient's dignity. We exist to help individuals and families in the South Bay LA community and beyond achieve sustainable, long-term recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Treatment Philosophy
We believe addiction is a chronic medical condition that responds to structured, evidence-based intervention. Our clinical model integrates medical stabilization, cognitive-behavioral therapies, trauma-informed care, and holistic wellness practices. Every treatment plan is individualized based on comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, and our multidisciplinary team meets daily to review progress and adjust protocols. Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and our coastal campus provides the focused environment patients need to do the difficult work of lasting change.
